Renewable energy to be 60 per cent of power mix by 2030, says IEA

28 May 2010

The International Energy Agency (IEA) said it will maintain its forecast for renewable energy generation to constitute 60 per cent of all electricity produced by 2030, according to reports.

Nobuo Tanaka, executive director at IEA, said investment has performed better during the financial crisis than originally expected, Reuters reports.

He said renewable energy policies made at the state level last year will boost investments during 2010.

Earlier this month, the IEA said solar electricity alone will represent 20 per cent to 25 per cent of global electricity by 2050.

Tanaka said this decade was crucial for effective policies to enable the development of solar electricity.

‘Long-term oriented, predictable solar-specific incentives are needed to sustain early deployment and bring both technologies to competitiveness in the most suitable locations and times,’ he said.
