Semilab acquires solar solutions company Semiconductor Diagnostics

Semilab, a metrology company, has acquired Semiconductor Diagnostics, a Florida-based measurement solutions company for solar manufacturers.

SDI will now operate as part of the newly announced Semilab USA, offering solutions to semiconductor and solar researchers and manufacturers.

‘The acquisition of SDI provides Semilab with another key offering for non-contact metrology and give us critical mass as a source single vendor,’ said Dr Tibor Pavelka, CEO of Semilab. ‘SDI is the premier provider of surface photo voltage technology for the non-contact, non-destructive measurement of wafers and ICs. With strength around iron and copper contamination, the products meet the needs for manufacturing products such as the image sensors used in cell phones and solar cells.’

Andrew Finlay, vice president of sales and marketing at SDI, added, ‘We could not pick a better company to join than Semilab. It is an ideal fit for our market area. We will be able to take advantage of Semilab’s sales channels and extensive reach into the semiconductor and solar markets.’

Dr Chris Moore was named president and CEO of Semilab USA. Moore will be responsible for the strategic direction and operations of all Semilab divisions within the US. Moore joined Semilab through its acquisition of Advanced Metrology Systems in March 2009 where he also served as president and CEO.

In addition to naming Dr Moore as president and CEO, Semilab USA is also relocating its corporate headquarters which will now be located in Massachusetts.
