The Siliken Group of renewable energy companies is to open a plant in the last quarter of 2010 for the manufacture of solar photovoltaic modules in Ontario, Canada with an initial production capacity of 50MW.
Siliken said it is currently finalising the choice of location and necessary legal paperwork in order to set the plant in motion, which will create approximately 150 direct jobs in Ontario.
The new plant will join the other Siliken plants that are currently productive in Valencia, Spain and San Diego, California. The company said it is to absorb the demand for photovoltaic equipment which has started to grow since bonuses for power production under the FIT Program have been introduced for photovoltaic installations in Ontario and since the introduction of positive discrimination of the product manufactured in this province under the new legislation.
With this operation, the Siliken group will strengthen its current international business presence, operating in Spain, Italy, France, Czech Republic, Greece, Belgium, the Netherlands and the US. It will also increase its production capacity to 250MW, created in the production plants in Valencia and San Diego.
Siliken is a group of companies specialising in the manufacture of modules, other photovoltaic components and in developing turn-key projects. Currently, it has a silicon and trichlorosilane purification plant, produces photovoltaic modules, power inverters, installation structures, electrical security panels, string monitors and other components. The company also operates in the wind sector and produces different models of low-power air generators.
With the manufacturing plant, Siliken said it will offer solar modules to Canadian developers required to fulfill the Domestic Content Requirements stipulated in the FIT programme.
