US solar company Recurrent Energy launches European operations with 4.8MW Spain development

San Francisco solar electricity provider Recurrent Energy has launched its European operations with 4.8MW of rooftop solar power in Spain. The firm was awarded a feed-in tariff commission by the Spanish government for the projects, which will be located in Madrid and Barcelona and are expected to come on-stream in mid 2010.

The projects are the result of a co-development arrangement with global facility provider ProLogis, which leased rooftop space on eight of its distribution centres for the project. Recurrent will finance, own and operate the solar systems, which will be grid-connected, feeding all power generated back into a local provider.

Recurrent CEO Arno Harris said, ‘This is the first of many more to come for Recurrent Energy in Europe as well as an industry first that points the way towards the future of solar power. We have over 500MW of distributed-scale projects in development across North America and Europe, and what this project successfully demonstrates is the sizable role commercial and industrial rooftops can play in large-scale solar deployment.’

Recurrent specialises in 2MW-20MW solar plant developments close to high demand areas with operations across North America and a pipeline of European projects in development.
