US solar developer SunPower releases maximum efficiency solar panel line

Californian solar cell, panel and solar module manufacturer SunPower has released a new maximum efficiency solar panel product line claiming unprecedented record efficiency of 19.5 per cent.

‘We are pleased to deliver a solar panel with an unprecedented efficiency of 19.5 per cent,’ said Tom Werner, SunPower CEO. ‘I’m very proud that we continue to exceed industry standards with this new E19 Series product line.’

The company said its new SunPower E19 Series solar panels, a product line that offers modules in a 96-cell or 72-cell configuration, have a record efficiency of greater than 19 per cent.

Its new modules feature all-back contact solar cells that the company said deliver three per cent more surface area per cell, boosting panel efficiency by reducing unutilised space.

The panels also have an anti-reflective coating that allows for more diffuse off-angle light to be captured, generating more energy per rated watt than a conventional solar panel, the company added.

The company said it is continuing to offer its 18 per cent efficiency solar panels in the SunPower E18 Series product line, including 96-cell and 72-cell configurations ranging from 305W to 225W.

SunPower’s said its new E19 Series product line will be available for shipment to residential and commercial customers via its US and European dealer networks in the third quarter of 2010.

Founded in 1985, Sunpower has headquarters in San Jose, California, with additional offices in the US, Europe, Australia and Asia, including facilities in the Philippines.
