5 July 2010

UK renewable energy investor The Amplio Group has acquired a majority stake in Puresep Holdings, a UK-based water purification, filtration and separation company, further expanding its technology and services business.

The acquisition represents the first geographic expansion for The Amplio Group’s subsidiary Amplio Filtration, which last year acquired Nasdaq-listed Basin Water and subsequently formed Envirogen Technologies.

With over 300 clients, revenues of £3.7m and a range of water treatment and process filtration technologies, Amplio said that will give the company a solid foothold in the large, growing and fragmented UK market.

Formed in 2002, Puresep Holdings owns Puresep Water Technologies and Puresep Filtration Technologies.

Puresep Filtration, headquartered in Herefordshire and founded in 2002, has customers across the food and Beverage, pharmaceuticals, paper and chemical markets including Heinken, Diageo, and Britvic. The company’s Pureflow Microfiltration is used in beer, wine, cider and water filtration.

Its sister company, Puresep Water, was established in 2004. Based in Lincolnshire, this Puresep subsidiary provides water softening for the production of ultra pure water used in critical process applications.

Andrea Davi, co-founder of Amplio, said, ‘The Puresep acquisition combines innovative technologies, an experienced team, a solid and broad customer mix, secure income and a robust platform for growth.’

Amplio aims to strengthen and consolidate Puresep with US businesses. Davi referred to the UK water market as one of the most fragmented water markets in the world but said that demand is surging as companies have to adhere to ever more strict environmental, economic and regulatory targets.

CEO of Amplio Group, Riccardo Segat, said, ‘Amplio Filtration looks forward to building on our successes already achieved in the US by further consolidation and maximising potentially significant cross-selling opportunities between our US and UK water investments to develop a global, integrated water business of scale.’
