Israel-based wastewater treatment company Emefcy has raised $5m in a funding round, which its CEO told NewNet will help the company realise a full scale-up demonstration project.
The company, which is developing microbial fuel cell implementation for wastewater treatment, saw UK investment fund Pond Venture Partners join existing investors Israel Cleantech Venture Funds and Plan B Ventures.
‘Pond Venture Partners is a very professional and experienced venture capitalist and that is why we are so glad to join their portfolio,’ said Eytan Levy, CEO of Emefcy said
The company’s technology has already undergone laboratory testing and it is now scaling-up to construct a full-scale demonstration plant.
‘We are developing new technology that is going to change the world of water treatment,’ Levy said.
Levy said Emefcy is assessing locations within Israel for the demonstration plant and in parallel has teamed up with the US state of Michigan to set up an international site.
‘We are also in discussions with other partners,’ Levy said.
The company has not defined particular regions as of specific interest for future sales but rather is looking to build its business focused on certain market segments in areas such as industrial wastewater.
