enXco’s Desert Claim Wind Power project to generate $33m in economic activity for Washington

A study conducted on The Desert Claim Wind Power project, to be developed by enXco, has found it will generate more than $33m in new economic activity for the state of Washington in the year it is contructed.

The ECONorthwest study estimates that once in operation, Desert Claim will create 36 jobs and $6.2m in new economic activity annually.

‘Our study shows that the Desert Claim project will have a significant impact on the economy, particularly during the construction phase,’ said Stephen Grover, a managing director at the economics consulting firm ECONorthwest and author of the Desert Claim statewide economic impact study. ‘With Washington’s unemployment rate currently above nine per cent, Desert Claim will help sustain jobs in the hard-hit construction sector and create new renewable-energy jobs once the wind farm is in operation.’

Grover and others will put forward their findings when the state Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council holds its adjudicatory hearing this month.

enXco is an EDF Energies Nouvelles Company which develops, constructs, operates and manages renewable energy projects in the US. The company recently closed a funding round for a Minnesota-based wind energy project.
