US Energy Secretary Steven Chu said $59m in conditional loan guarantees would go to Nordic Windpower and Beacon Power.
Nordic Windpower has been offered $16m to support its wind turbine expansion, while energy storage company Beacon Power has been offered $43m to support the construction of a 20MW storage plant in New York.
‘These projects represent the innovative technologies that will help America reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and fight climate change,’ said Secretary Chu.
In March, the US Department of Energy made its first conditional loan guarantee of $535m to Solyndra, a solar technology company.
