RWE Innogy secures 150 MW of Polish wind power

Renewable energy company RWE Innogy has secured access to three further wind energy projects in Poland, with a total capacity of 150 MW.

The projects are located in the regions of Masuria, Pomerania and the Province of Greater Poland, and are still in the early stage of development. Official approval in not expected before 2011, the company said.

Roy Schwarzer, division manager for onshore wind at RWE Innogy, said, ‘The Polish wind market is one of the most attractive in Europe and has huge potential for development. I am therefore pleased that our organic growth is advancing well here.’

In September 2008, RWE Innogy obtained the rights for the development of other wind farms in Poland with a total capacity of 300 MW.

By 2010, energy utilities in Poland are required to provide 10.4 per cent of energy consumption from renewable sources. At present, approximately 400 MW of wind energy is connected to the grid.
