Senergy Alternative Energy acquires SGC Engineering, secures US foothold

30 July 2010

Power services company Senergy Alternative Energy said it has cemented its position in the US market with the acquisition of transmission and wind-power focused SGC Engineering.

Senergy Holdings, the parent company, is headquartered in the UK and Maine-based SGC will become a subsidiary of Senergy’s the newly-established and US-based Senergy Alternative Energy.

Nial McCollam, managing director of Senergy Alternative Energy, said the acquisition formally cements the company’s relationship with SGC and brings together the pair’s complimentary technical capabilities, skills and experiences.

‘We have been impressed by SGC’s focus and determination to serve clients across the energy sector, which is founded upon a great team of professionals who are driven to give great service to their customers,’ McCollam said.

‘While there are still many economic challenges in the US and Europe, I have no doubt that this acquisition puts us collectively in an excellent position to capitalise on the extensive opportunities afforded within the energy sector in the coming months and years ahead.’

Senergy said areas of immediate collaboration include leveraging UK and European offshore wind experience into North America and taking its experience in the carbon capture and storage experience into the US market.

The companies said they will also pursue a wide range of smart-grid and off-grid opportunities.
