5 July 2010

A study published by the Australian government’s National Health and Medical Research Council said while a range of effects such as anxiety, hearing loss and interference with sleep, there is no scientific evidence to support adverse effects of wind turbines on health.

It said studies on three UK wind farms and the World Health Organization have found that sounds produced by turbines that are generally inaudible to the human ear result in psychological effects.

It also found that people who benefit economically from wind turbines are less likely to report annoyance, despite exposure to similar sound levels.

It said that while current evidence is limited no concrete link can be found and therefore local authorities around the world should continue to look into the issue.
