Fuel cell engineers Morphic Power develops fuel cells for underwater crafts

Fuel cell and wind power engineering company Morphic Power has received an order from the Polish Navy to develop fuel cells for underwater crafts.

This project coincides with the development of Polaris 140, a fuel cell system for vehicles such as boats, travel trailers and motor homes. This system generates electricity in environments that have no contact with the atmosphere.

Martin Valfridsson, president and CEO of Morphic, said, ‘The result of the development work is exciting. We are broadening our existing product portfolio consisting of fuel cells mainly intended for civilian use with niche systems for military applications and are strengthening our position as a supplier of fuel cells. Today’s initial order from the Polish Navy means that we now have a customer order for environmentally-friendly electricity generation for land, underwater and airborne applications.’

The developed fuel cells will be driven by hydrogen gas and oxygen, considered a more efficient form of energy generation than conventional fuel cells which extract oxygen from the air.
