The European Commission has adopted a proposal for a regulation to receive better information on investment projects into energy infrastructure within the EU. The aim is to establish greater transparency on the likely evolution of energy infrastructure in main energy sectors such as oil (including biofuels), electricity and gas, but also in related areas such as the transport and storage of carbon related to energy production.

Electronics company Siemens expects to win new orders of around €15bn in the next three fiscal years 2010 until 2012, which will be generated by government stimulus programmes already announced around the world. Green technologies are expected to account for 40 per cent or approximately €6bn of this total, which will significantly increase the share of the company’s revenues from its environmental portfolio in the future.

San Francisco International Airport, is to install a hydrogen fueling station. The station will be open to drivers of fuel cell vehicles and will be used to fuel a fleet of SFO’s shuttle buses as well as the demonstration of San Francisco Municipal Transportation Authority’s hybrid transit bus which uses hydrogen fuel cell battery and low sulphur biodiesel technology.

Cleantech companies received markedly less investment in Q1 2009 compared to previous quarters as the global economic downturn caught up with investors across the sector. US venture capital investments in cleantech, as with venture capital overall, dropped sharply in Q1 2009 after a record year in 2008, according to an Ernst & Young analysis based on data from Dow Jones Venture Source. The $277m raised in 24 deals in Q1 2009 represents a 63 per cent decrease in terms of capital and 48 per cent decline in deals compared to Q1 2008.
